Matrix Analytics is a growing analytics group founded in South Africa which now operates out of Lexington, KY as a subsidiary company of Matrix Design Group with employees based out of both South Africa and the US. The group’s analytics experience is oriented towards the mining space, where we integrate hardware, software, and analytics solutions to meet the needs of our clients.

The Data Analyst interprets data to help a company take actionable steps to improve their performance and meet goals. Their duties include gathering company information and statistics, building reports to present results to executives and finding ways to improve a company’s efficiencies using gathered data. As a mid to senior-level employee, the data analyst is expected to oversee and mentor a small team and act as a liaison between other departments.

This position reports to the Head of Analytics: Operations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create dashboards, reports, and models to support business decisions by working closely with business units and teams to establish initiatives and strategies to improve productivity and optimize costs.
  • Forecasting, budgeting, and financial analysis’
  • Data analysis, data preparation, and cleaning
  • Integrate and transform data for analysis
  • Establishing new data gathering and analysis techniques within the organization
  • Finding patterns and trend in data and communicating them to team members
  • Prepare and analyze Data using R, Python, SQL, SAS, and Excel.
  • Building algorithms based on statistical modelling procedures
  • Understanding of networks, databases, and other technology
  • Use statistical tools to identify, analyze and interpret patterns and trends in complex data sets.
  • Prepare analysis reports for the key stakeholders to understand the analysis process and outcomes, allowing them to take informed decisions.
  • Work alongside team members within the business to develop client relationships


  • Minimum a Bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics, economics, statistics, finance, or related fields
  • MSc is a plus
  • Minimum 8+ years’ experience as an Analyst in an established organization.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills
  • Significant experience using a business intelligence tool eg. PowerBi or Tableau
  • Knowledge of statistical tools in Excel, SQL, and SAS
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work well in a pressured/high pace environment
  • Programming experience necessary
  • Previous mining experience is not required, but considered advantage
  • Drafting reports and presentation skills
  • Leadership skills with proven experience managing a small team
  • Strong analytical skills and problem solving
  • Ability to organize and prioritize
  • Must have personal means of transportation
